POWER TO BE A SON OF GOD

“But as many as RECEIVED HIM, to them gave He power to become the SONS of GOD, even to them that BELIEVE on HIS NAME” – John 1:12 (KJV)

Allied to being God’s Child is the POWER TO BE A SON of GOD: “But as many as RECEIVED HIM, to them gave He power to become the SONS of GOD, even to them that BELIEVE on HIS NAME” (Jh. 1:12 KJV). Interestingly, Jesus Himself was “declared to be the Son of God with POWER according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Rom.1:4). Faith in Christ comes by hearing the Gospel, receiving the truth, and believing that Christ was crucified, died, was buried, and rose again, according to Scripture. When we reach that position of faith, God the Father grants us the right to become His children, born of the Spirit and washed in the blood of Jesus. I AM A SON of GOD because: I have believed on His Name and received Him into my life as Lord and Saviour. Therefore I am empowered to live as a son of God.

To believe in His Name does not simply mean to believe that Jesus lived as a historical figure or to believe the fact of Scripture intellectually. Rather, it means to accept everything that the Bible teaches about the Lord Jesus Christ: that He was sent by God to pay the price for our sin and that He is the Word of God made flesh (v.14). Trusting in His Name is accepting Him as the incarnate Son of God, Who came to earth, dwelt among us and died as the sacrificial substitute for the sin of humankind (Jh.1:29). The Eternal Word, God incarnate, and Creator of the world, came to earth as a Man, to pay the price for sin (vv.1-2). We rely on Him for the forgiveness of sin and salvation of our souls, rather than on our own good works. No self-effort, smartness or merit is sufficient to make us right with God!

Only by believing in the Name of Jesus do we begin the amazing, everlasting journey that gives us the authority of being adopted into the family of God and being awarded the right to be called “children of God” – “sons of God.” It is by faith in the Person and work of the only begotten Son of God, that we are granted this stupendous privilege (v.18). Everyone that’s born into the human race has the opportunity to become a child of God, but some refuse to believe in Christ’s sacrificial offering on the Cross as payment for their sin, and they are not permitted to become His children. But to all who have received Him as their sin-substitute, down through centuries of time, by believing on His name, He gave the right to become sons of God.

There is only one way to be saved: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household” (Acts 16:31). There is only one way to become a son of God: believe on the name of His eternal Son (Jh.1:12). Apart from the glorious Name of JESUS, there is no other name in heaven or on earth that has the power to save the lost (Acts 4:12). His Name in the ear of the believer is the most beautiful of all names, for it is through our union with Him that we have been brought back into sweet communion with the living God.

I believe that Christ's death, burial, and Resurrection procured my salvation.

I believe that the consequence of sin is death, but Jesus paid the penalty by dying on the Cross for me.

I trust that His atoning sacrifice paid the price for my sin and that by faith I am born again into God's Family.

I believe that Jesus took the punishment that I deserved, and through faith in Him my sin has been blotted out forever.

I have been declared righteous by God and covered in Christ's own, perfect righteousness, to live as a Son of God!

This is my Story…this is my Song! I am a Son of God by Identity and by Power!
