PROTECTION FROM ALL WICKED PLOTS

“PROTECT ME from the PLOTS of the WICKED, from mobs of evil people” – Psalm 64:2 (GNT)

Beloved, you can trust GOD for PROTECTION FROM ALL WICKED PLOTS: “PROTECT ME from the PLOTS of the WICKED, from mobs of evil people” (Psa.64:2, Good News Translation). The NKJV says: “Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the rebellion of the workers of iniquity” (Psa.64:2). This is a psalm of prayer that the secret schemes and vicious plots of wicked persons against the righteous might fail. There are two main parts to the psalm: a petition against the devices of the wicked (vv. 1-6), and an affirmation of faith and expression of the certainty of divine vengeance (vv. 7-10).

This psalm begins with a vivid description of the devious ways of the wicked: “preserve my life from fear of the enemy” (v.1). David earnestly pleaded for God to rescue him from disquieting fear of the enemy which could be as destructive as an actual assault. God hears our prayer always, even before we utter it. He knows the thoughts of our very heart. No prayer that is in earnest fails to rise to His throne. But we must pray in the Will of God, not pray amiss (Jam.4:3). We have no reasons to fear anything; not even the devil or his agents. The only fear that is permissible for us is fear of the Lord.

Here we see the secrecy and the speech of the wicked. First, the unrivalled secrecy: “secrets plots…that they may shoot in secret…they talk of laying snares secretly” (v.2-5). Then, the lethal speech: “who sharpen their tongue like a sword” (vv.3). The tongue is a little member, but it boasts great things (Jam.3:5). There is no sentry against a false tongue. Their tongue is LIKE a sword, it is not a sword. The real Sword is the Word of God (Eph.6:17). In Jesus’ case, the wicked pretended that God’s Word was why they were coming against Him, whereas this was false. They shot their bitter words at Him, even accusing the very Son of God of blasphemy (Mt.26:65).

All of these depict how Joseph’s brothers secretly took counsel against him, King Saul and his courtiers against David, and the Jews against Christ, very covertly and secretly (see Matt. 26:3). In verse 2b, “The rebellion of the workers of iniquity” refers to the noise, rage, and tumult of the mob, echoing Psalm 2:1, “Why do the nations plan rebellion? Why do people make their useless plots?” There is the combination of secret fabrications, machinations and designs of wickedness, and open violence, especially using the tongue with the intent to slander.

Still, the psalmist never entertained the fear of God losing control of the situation. After seeing His justice at work, the righteous will trust all the more in Him: “The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory” (64:10). In contrast to the long, laborious scheming of the “enemy”, God’s judgment is swift and appropriate. He frustrates their plans and uses their weapons against them, the “arrows”, the attack that comes “suddenly”, and their own sharp “tongue” (vv.7-8). However threatening the oppression of the wicked may seem, I shall continually rejoice in God!

Beloved, God protects His people from all wicked plots. If you believe, please declare with me: In Jesus precious name:

My life is PERFECTLY PROTECTED and preserved from fear.

I am hidden in Christ, in God, fully protected me from the secret plots of the wicked and mobs of evil people.

No tongue sharpened against me like a sword shall prosper; all toxic tongues are cut off.

All bows of wickedness bent against me are broken into pieces and rendered powerless.

All arrows of bitterness, cruel words, and slander aimed at me turn back swiftly against their senders.

Every trap and snare laid secretly against me shall ensnare their fabricators.

Every shrewd scheme from the depth of wickedness shall swallow their schemers.

My God will shoot at His enemies with an arrow and cause them to stumble.

My Victory shall be a testimony for all to behold, fear God, and give Him Glory!
