Bible Meditation:
1 Thessalonians 5: 1-11

You are all SONS of LIGHT and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness– 1 Thessalonians 5:5

The Bible describes Believers as SONS of LIGHT:You are all SONS of LIGHT and sons of the day(1The.5:5a). Sons, children or Offspring of Light are those who have been born of God, of His Word – which is Light – and have chosen to walk in the light, away from the dark deeds of evil. These are also Sons of the day because they know the value of working in divine timing. The Lord Jesus Christ said: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work” (Jh.9:4).

Here are four scriptural portrayals of Sons of Light:

Sons of Light are Spiritually Awake: “Therefore let us not sleep, as others do,but let us watch and be sober” (1The.5:6). Ephesians 5:14 says, “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you Light.” As we awake to righteousness, we are empowered to awaken others and bring them into the Light.

Sons of Light are Witnesses: "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the LIGHT, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world” (Jh.1:6-9). John bore witness to Jesus because he knew Who Jesus was and His Mission (Jh.1:29-30). A Witness answers questions truthfully and gives an honest account of what he has seen and heard. As Christians, we can be light in the darkness by testifying with truth to Who we know God to be and what He has done. It is not our job to make people believe, but to share the truth boldly and lovingly.

Sons of Light are Followers of Jesus: “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (Jh.8:12). Children of light choose to follow and obey the commands of the Lord and reject the ways of the world. We hold fast to what is true. The challenge for us is to keep our eyes on the One we follow. The moment we take our eyes off of the Savior, we will be tempted to slip into the darkness of the world. Just as Jesus set His face like flint toward the redeeming cross, we too must set our faces like flint toward the Redeemer. If we claim to be in communion with the Lord, but walk in darkness, we are not practicing the truth (1Jh.1:5-7).

Sons of Light Shine, not hide: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Mt.5:14-16). It can be a little scary to think about shining the light of Jesus for all to see. It’s much safer to casually mention Him, with the hope of not offending anyone. However, Jesus proclaimed that His followers as the light of the world are not to remain tucked away in our protected corners. We are called to shine our light as a city set on a hill. We are to boldly let our light shine before men!

Each of us is called to be light in the darkness: awakened, bearing witness of the Saviour, following His commands, and shining for His Glory – living intentionally as sons of Light. I declare that: “I’m a son of light, a son of the day. I shine forth effusively, illuminating my world with glory and virtue. Through me, the unsaved hear and receive the light of the glorious Gospel and are transferred from darkness into God’s marvellous light, and from the power of Satan unto God. Praise God!”

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
