THE VALUE OF LIFE

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth – Luke 12:15 (KJV)

Remember the Question – What is your life? How do you value life? In what UNITS can you count, calculate, compute, or weigh your life?
What are your MEASURES of life?

Is life counted according to how long we live – the duration of life?
Is life computed in terms of awards and trophies for achievement?
Is life calculated based on the accumulation of riches, loads of money in the bank, mansions owned, or the modern “toys” amassed?
Is life valued in terms of fun, fashion, enjoyment, or entertainment?
Is life a summation of the weights of academic degrees or the heights of career attainment, social popularity or political positioning?
Is life measured in terms of personal fulfilment, family harmony, the breeding of good children, experiencing peace of mind, enjoying good health, healthy relationships, positive influence or community impact?

Any of these could be good and legitimate elements of life, but none is a true or complete measure of life. They all come from the world’s value system, as distinct from God’s standards of value.

The values by which most people measure life are usually physical and ‘temporal’ – time-limited – and therefore, generally differ from God’s measures. God’s value of life transcends space and time. True life has SPIRITUAL and ETERNAL dimensions: it does not merely consist in the abundance of physical possessions (Lk.12: 15).

To make the most or to maximize THIS ONE LIFE requires that you have the correct knowledge about life as well as a right perspective and proper attitude to life. Your attitude to life will determine to a large extent, life’s response to you. What life means to you – Your VALUE of LIFE determines your priorities, fruitfulness, productivity and impact. Think. Pray. Ponder. What is my VALUE of LIFE? Is my life valuable only in TIME…or also in ETERNITY?
