“Can two WALK TOGETHER, unless they are AGREED?” – Amos 3:3
The Believer’s Walk is meant to be a WALK in AGREEMENT with GOD: “Can two WALK TOGETHER, unless they are AGREED?” (Amos 3:3). God reminded Israel of the great privilege it had in being brought out of slavery in Egypt (vv.1-2). This great privilege also brought with a responsibility before God, but the Israelites failed to obey God and were in danger of judgement. Amos called on the heedless people to be aware of God’s judgements for corruption, covetousness, and violent oppression of the poor by the rich (vv.4-8); and His righteousness in chastising those who continued to sin and did not repent, being just and holy.
God’s special relationship with Israel could not continue so long as they clung to their iniquities, just as two people cannot walk together unless they walk in the same direction with a common purpose in view. Other versions of our key scripture enhance clarity: “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” (NIV); “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?” (NLT); “Do two men walk together unless they have made an appointment?” (NASB). Therefore, in the context of this scripture, the word “agreed” refers to an appointment or agreement to meet and walk together or go in the same direction.
Before announcing the coming judgement, Amos, by a series of short parables, established his right to prophesy, and shared the necessity laid upon him to deliver God’s message having been divinely commissioned. He illustrated the truths that all effects have causes, and that from the cause we can infer the effect. God’s judgement and the prophet’s word were in sync, not by chance. Amos was of one mind with God, who confirmed his words: “Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken! Who can but prophecy?” (vv.7-8).
However, this notion of agreement does not infer the need for absolute uniformity in everything as a prerequisite to having fellowship with Him. God didn’t create Man as a robot to be controlled or teleguided by Him. He gave humankind the power of choice, the freedom to decide. The uniqueness of human creation in terms of identity and variety makes absolute uniformity unwarranted. Nonetheless, our choices and decisions have consequences. The principle to establish from Amos 3:3 is that no one can WALK in STEP with God except such a person is in agreement with Him: Agreement with His Word, His Will, and His Ways.
Agreement with God’s WORD means to be a DOER of the Word: “But be DOERS of the WORD, and not HEARERS ONLY, deceiving yourselves (Jam.1:22). The last days are days of the rains, floods, and winds! Only those whose lives are founded on the Rock of the Word, walking in step with God will stand in Dominion (Mt.7: 21-25). Psalm 119:105 says, “YOUR WORD is a lamp to my feet, and a light to MY PATH.”
Agreement with GOD’S WILL. This presupposes knowing and understanding God’s Will – “And do not be conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and PERFECT WILL of GOD” (Rom.12:2). Ephesians 5: 15-17 instructs: “See then that you WALK circumspectly, not as fools but as WISE, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but UNDERSTAND WHAT the WILL of the LORD is.”
Agreement with GOD’S WAYS. David prayed: “Show me YOUR WAYS, O LORD; Teach me YOUR PATHS. Lead me in YOUR TRUTH and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day” (Psa.25: 4-5). Psalm 103:7 reveals that: “He made known HIS WAYS to Moses, HIS ACTS to the children of Israel.”
If we are to walk with God acceptably and pleasingly, we must agree with Him – for His Word, His Will, and His Ways are perfect. God will never lead us astray. For us Believers in Christ, the Indwelling Holy Spirit makes this possible and seamless!

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
