Philippians 2: 1-11

“HE HUMBLED HIMSELF and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross – Philippians 2:8b

To Walk in God’s Way is to WALK IN HUMILITY: “And being found in appearance as a man, HE HUMBLED HIMSELF and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil.2: 8-11). JESUS WALKED IN HUMILITY, epitomised by His Obedience to the point of death! The Son of God “made Himself of no reputation” (v.7). Humility is embracing who we are in the Lord and therefore putting others first!

The humility of God’s Son, which resulted in His exaltation, was ultimately “to the glory of God the Father”! (v.11). Following His steps, we must be willing to be “vulnerable”; to become a Nobody, as long as God is glorified (Phil.2:5-9). In humility we “esteem others better” than ourselves (v.3). We do not carry our shoulders high against our brethren in Christ. We look out “for the interests of others” (v.4). Every answer to the questions of walking in humility is found in the Person of Jesus! He, more than anyone who ever lived, had the right to claim power, status, and wealth; yet He modelled the life of humility. Rather than justly strike down His enemies and take the throne, Jesus died on a cross for our sin. If we truly want to walk in humility, we must learn to walk in His steps: “leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps” (1Pet.2:21b).

Until and unless we’re submissive to the Lord and His Word, we really can’t walk with His Spirit. True humility is yielding to the will of the Father; acting on the Word, regardless and independent of circumstances. It’s about honouring, regarding, and giving preference to others, because the Word says so. God loves the humble and hates the arrogant: “The LORD lifts up the meek; He casts the wicked down to the ground” (Psa.147:6). Humility is the pathway to Honour: “Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is Humility” (Pro.18:12). Without humility, one can neither get through the Christian Walk of Faith nor be able to do God’s will.

God always aligns with the humble against the proud: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the HUMBLE” (Jam.4:6b). We are then admonished: “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (Jam.4:10). Peter wrote likewise: “ALL of you BE SUBMISSIVE to one another, and be CLOTHED WITH HUMILITY, for “God resists the proud, but give grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time” (1Pet.5: 5-6). We can talk in tongues; we can prophesy; but if we’re not submissive and humble, it’s all in vain. Rather than seeing submissiveness as weakness; we should see it as a mark of maturity and evidence of humility.

Pride and haughtiness are signs of demonic presence, which bring disgrace and destruction: “Every proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; though they join forces, none will go unpunished…Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud” (Pro.16:5, 18-19). Satan wasn’t submissive to God; he was a proud figure, and for his haughtiness, God kicked him out of his place of honour: “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Lk.14:11). We must make up our minds to walk in humility. It’s part of the manifestation of the life of Christ in us.

Walking in humility is a great blessing: “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life” (Pro.22:4). Humility brings promotion into honour, increase, enlargement, and progress.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
