THE WAY AND HIS WAYS

“Jesus said to him, “I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life…” – John 14:6a

This month, we shift gear forward in our meditations on God’s Words, to THE WAY and HIS WAYS: “Jesus said to him, “I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (Jh.14:6). Jesus is THE WAY to all of God’s Ways – His Approaches, Attributes, Keys, and Principles. All of God’s ways are perfectly exemplified in the Person of the Son of God. Jesus is not just A WAY, as in one of many; He is THE WAY, as in the One and only. No one, regardless of attainment, reputation, special knowledge, or personal holiness, can come to God the Father or get to heaven, except through Jesus. He is the Way to heaven. He came down from heaven (Jh.3:13). He returned there by His own blood, and has opened the way through Himself for His people – all who believe in, accept His finished work, and follow Him.

Jesus is The Way to the Father: “No one comes to the Father except through Me” (v.6b). This was his response to Thomas’ request: “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life...If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him” (vv.6-7). Our Lord took the opportunity of this discourse about the place He was going to, and the way to it, to instruct His disciples and Believers of all generations concerning Himself. Christ is not merely a way in terms of being an Model for believers to follow or a prophet, giving counsel, doctrines, and instructions. The Son is the Way to the Father!

JESUS is the Way of Salvation: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be SAVED” (Jh.3: 16-17). Peter declared: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be SAVED” (Acts 4:12). Paul wrote: “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” (1Tim.2:5). Doors precede Ways. Jesus is also the Open Door of Salvation: “I AM THE DOOR. If anyone enters by Me, he will be SAVED, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (Jh.10: 9-10). There is no other Way of Redemption apart from Jesus. All others are imposters!

JESUS is the New and Living Way: “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a NEW and LIVING WAY which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh” (Heb.10: 19-20). There is no other way into God’s Presence than this new and living way, through the Blood of Jesus Christ! He is the only Way appointed by God, the Father: “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil.2: 9-11).

JESUS is the Way to all the Blessings of New Covenant of Grace: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places IN CHRIST” (Eph.1:3).

The starting point to understanding GOD'S WAYS is to enter into a living and eternal relationship with JESUS – THE WAY!
