WISDOM – BETTER THAN WEALTH

How much BETTER it is to get WISDOM than GOLD! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silvers – Proverbs 16:16

Over and over, the Bible says: “WISDOM is BETTER…” Wisdom is better than affluence, worldly riches, and wealth. Wisdom and Wealth are actually two sides of the ‘divine coin’ but the superior side is Wisdom. That’s why when God gave Solomon an ‘open cheque’ and he asked for Wisdom, God accompanied the gift of Wisdom with stupendous wealth, great riches, and unique honour (2Chr.1:11-12). God is the Giver of the Power to get wealth (Deut.8:18). Wisdom can be considered to be a vital part of this supernatural wealth-creating power!

Wisdom is to be preferred over worldly riches, wealth, and whatever these can purchase. Moreover, wisdom is the Answer to Happiness: “HAPPY is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; for her proceeds are BETTER than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold” (Pro.3:13-14).  The ultimate, enduring and eternal happiness that all people long for will only be found by those who first “get wisdom”! The happiness that comes from true wisdom is ultimate, enduring, and eternal. Not all shades of happiness come from true wisdom: "Folly is a joy to him who has no sense" (Pro.15:21). The thirst for happiness is insatiable in this world, and without the wisdom to seek it in God, we will find whatever fake substitutes we can in the world.

The sources where people seek happiness apart from God are countless: drinks, drugs, entertainment, food, fashion, the internet, sex, sports, and so on; but the semblance of happiness these worldly things bring is not true, lasting, ultimate and eternal. It leaves one frustrated, incomplete, hollow, and unsatisfied, knowing that there must be something more. Wisdom is better than any ‘matter’ or the most precious material resource: “For WISDOM is BETTER than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her” (Pro.8:11). Wisdom says: “My fruit is BETTER than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue than choice silver” (Pro.8:19).

Never forget this gem of truth: “How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silvers” (Pro. 16:16).”
