Bible Meditation:
Psalm 119: 129-136

Your testimonies are WONDERFUL; therefore my soul keeps them” – Psalm 119:129

Wonderful testimonies await discovery in God’s Word, if we only have eyes to see: “Your testimonies are WONDERFUL, therefore my soul keeps them. The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple” (Psa.119: 129-130). The Passion Translation says, “Your marvelous words are LIVING MIRACLES; no wonder I long to obey everything you say.” The Message Bible says, “EVERY WORD you give me is a MIRACLE WORD – how could I help but obey?” God’s Word is a Treasure-House of Living Miracles and Miracle Words!

The word “wonderful” – pila’ot (Heb.) – is often used to describe God’s mighty acts on behalf of both the people as a whole and also of God’s redeeming actions for individuals. Of the people as a whole: I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember YOUR WONDERS of OLD…You are the GOD WHO DOES WONDERS; You have declared Your strength among the peoples” (Psa.77:11, 14); “Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all HIS WONDROUS WORKS! (Psa.105:2). Concerning individuals: “Show Your MARVELOUS lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You from those who rise up against them” (Psa.17:7). Just as God’s mighty acts of deliverance are means through which He shows grace to the oppressed, so is His Word a means of mediating His wonders to His people.

The Psalmist was filled with Wonder by the Word of the Lord, for which reason he obeyed. He had a deep desire to keep the statutes of the Lord and please Him. He treasured God’s Word. Reading the Word left him open-mouthed and panting for more: I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for Your commandments (v.131). God’s Word gives us spiritual nourishment and satisfies our spiritual hunger. The psalmist then asked the Lord to direct his footsteps according to His Word (v.133). His desired to be obedient; never to follow in the footstep of the wicked, but to be delivered from oppressive evil men (v.134). Again, he asked for the Lord’s help in learning His ways: “Make Your face shine upon Your servant, and teach me Your statutes” (v.135).

This stanza of the psalm closed with a statement that depicts the importance of God’s Word to the psalmist: Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep Your law” (v.136). He wept when the Laws of the Lord were disobeyed; whenever he saw others choosing to defy the ways of the Lord. This not only disturbed him, but broke his heart as well. His desire was that all would have the same longing for God’s Word. Beloved, we too need to have a similar hunger and thirst for God’s Word. We should be disturbed when we miss our quiet time with God, and never allow ourselves to become famished for the Bread of Life. We need to take the time to dig deeper into the Word and find those precious treasures that are waiting there for us to discover. More of God, this is what we need!

In summary: This passage focused on the Preciousness of God’s Word, comprising four attributes. The Bible is personal: It is filled with commands and promises that are not only meant for the world in general but for us personally. The Bible is practical: It is a light that shows us how and where to walk and not to walk. It gives us guidance to help in making the right decisions. The Bible is profitable: It helps us to become better persons in every area of life – as a spouse, parent, professional, worker, boss, student, or child. The Bible is powerful: It has the power to transform lives positively and permanently! The Bible is precious because it is so personal, practical, profitable, and powerful.

The Bible is a gold mine, waiting for those who would dig deep for its riches! As the Lord breaks open and grants us access into His Word, may we enjoy access into Light and Understanding for fulfilled and wonderful lives! Beloved, how precious is God’s Word to you?

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
