MODEL OF IMPACT THROUGH FAITH

“Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude” – Hebrews 11:12a

Abraham is a prominent figure in the scriptures, considered a MODEL of IMPACT through FAITH: “Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude – innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore” (Heb.11:12). Abram started childless, but did not remain alone. By faith, the Man was transformed into a nation! He showed unwavering belief in God’s promises, even when faced with seemingly impossible challenges and circumstances. Abraham’s faith was not merely intellectual assent, but a sincere assurance and deep trust that God would fulfil His Word.

Abraham’s unwavering faith led to significant events and ultimately established him as the “Father of Faith” for many believers: “So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him…” (Gen.12:4a). Apostle Paul wrote about Abraham’s faith in Romans 4:3, “For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. But, this unwavering faith flowed out of his obedience to God’s commands, even when he didn’t fully understand the reasons behind them. He obeyed God’s Call to leave his home and journey to a new land, despite not knowing where he was going. Abraham’s story is seen as an example for current believers, demonstrating how faith can lead to a transformed life and a relationship with God. 

Abraham believed in God’s promise of a son in his old age, a promise that seemed impossible given his and his wife Sarah’s age. He also believed in God’s Promise to make him the “father of a great nation”! His faith extended to trusting God’s provision, even when he faced hardship and uncertainty. He relied on God to provide for him and his family, even when he encountered famine and other challenges. Abraham’s faith attained its peak when God tried him by commanding him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Despite the immense emotional pain, Abraham was willing to obey, demonstrating his unwavering trust in God, Who eventually provided a ram for the sacrifice, signifying God’s provision an faithfulness.

Faith is a deep conviction that God’s Words are true and that God will perform all that He promises. Abraham’s belief in God was credited to him as righteousness; that is, he was seen as just and right in God’s eyes based in his faith. This process is a core principle in Christian theology, and highlighted in Genesis 15:6, “And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” In essence, Abraham’s faith has a profound impact on future generations, shaping the religious and cultural landscapes of many societies: “That he might be the father of all those who believe…” (Rom.4:11).
