Bible Meditation:
Hebrews 12:3-11

For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives – Hebrews 12:6

The truth in Hebrews 12:6 is echoed in Proverbs 3:11-12, “My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, nor detest His CORRECTION. For whom the LORD loves He CORRECTS, just as a father the son in whom he delights.” When fathers chasten, discipline or correct their children, it is in love and for their benefit, not out of hatred. Throughout scriptures God portrays Himself as a Father, especially to those who have received Jesus as Saviour (Jh.1:12). In Christ, we are all “sons of God, through faith” (Gal.3:26). He has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father”! (Gal.4:6).

God compares Himself to a loving father who not only blesses but disciplines His beloved children for their own good. Revelation 3:19a affirms this: “Those I love, I rebuke and discipline….” Those who refuse to receive God’s discipline are not legitimate children (Heb.12:8). A loving father carefully watches his son, and when the son defies his orders and heads for danger, the father disciplines him to keep him safe. God does that with us. When a born-again child of God heads for sin or fails to resist temptation, our Heavenly Father chastens and corrects to direct him back to the pathway of holiness.

The Bible relays many accounts of corporate chastening. The Israelites continually disobeyed God's commands. In His patience, He would send sent prophets to plead with them; but when they proved stubborn and embraced idols or evil practices, God chastened them with plagues or enemy attacks (Jer.40:3). This was actually His love that could not allow them to continue in their destructive behaviour. There are also examples of personal chastening of men in whom the Lord delighted, such as Moses (Num.27:12-14) and Solomon (1 Kgs 11:11). Although they made mistakes and were punished, God did not stop loving them. He brought discipline appropriate to the offence, but always forgave the truly repentant heart.

God’s chief instrument of divine chastening in the New Testament is His WORD: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for CORRECTION, for instruction in righteousness:” (2Tim.3:16). It is a good thing for God to correct us. This is much better than for us to fall into error, into the trap of temptation or into the snare of Satan. In order to experience God’s Grace, Goodness, and Glory this year, be prepared for times when God will correct you lovingly.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
