GOD WILL POSITION YOU HONOURABLY

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt – Genesis 41:41

People care a lot about positions in the world – political, professional, organisational, ecclesiastical, social, academic, and family. They compete, struggle for, and pursue positions for diverse motives. Some have been known to harm or use diabolical means against their supposed “competitors” all in a bid to occupy certain positions in life. This is because worldly positions often come with many privileges, which may be status-related, social, economic, financial, or material.

God also recognizes positions. He initiates, designs, establishes, prepares, and places individuals in definite positions. However, God’s attitude and perspective to positions differ greatly from human perspectives. For God, positions are more about PURPOSE than privileges. For example, there are positions in heaven. Lucifer occupied the position of an Archangel, but lost it to PRIDE and unholy ambition to occupy the position of the Creator Himself (Isa.14:12; Eze.28:13-17). Since Lucifer’s fall, pride has been the downfall of other creatures that refuse to reckon with the Creator in the pursuit of positions.

The tragic ends of Korah’s company, Absalom, and Adonijah, come to mind (Num.16; 2Sam.15-18; 1Kgs 1-2). God is the Owner of any position worth occupying, and He alone should be the Giver! The young boy Joseph, who was thrown into a pit by his brothers, sold as a slave into a foreign land, and falsely accused into prison, may never have thought that he would hear these words of Pharaoh setting him in an exalted Position over the entire Egypt! The Pharaoh handed all rule over to Joseph. The God-factor distinguished His story! God will make similar difference in your life if you’ll allow Him.

Jesus used the occasion of two of His disciples who began to show traces of ambition for position, to teach all of them about humility and service as the Kingdom keys (Matt.20: 20-28). The Son of God exemplified the divine disposition to positions:  HUMILITY is the platform to HONOUR – the way UP is DOWN (Phil. 2:5-11). Because He humbled Himself, “God also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name” (Phil.2:9). God has definite, clearly-designed domains and positions for every one of His children. But He wants us to PURSUE PURPOSE, not positions. What you need is to catch and pursue your heaven-born VISION, not a self-made inordinate AMBITION. God will position you honourably!
