“Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, and how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the Thunder of His Power who can understand?” – Job 26:14
GOD’S WORD is saturated with the WONDERS of HIS POWER: “He stirs up the sea with HIS POWER, and by His understanding He breaks up the storm. By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, and how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the THUNDER of HIS POWER who can understand?” (Job 26:12-14). In this third reply to his friend, Bildad, Job pondered the vast Power of God. Though his friends had given much advice, these were not the counsel Job needed; they didn’t appear to be based on sound knowledge of the Wonders of God’s Power (vv.1-4). Bildad and co. really didn’t know God’s Power!
Job avowed that God is so powerful, He has Dominion over the Realm of the Dead: “The dead tremble, those under the waters and those inhabiting them. Sheol is naked before Him, and Destruction has no covering” (vv.5-6). God sees through the abode of the dead! There is no hiding. Those who think that when they die, they go into nothingness, are highly mistaken. Jesus taught of the reality of death, and that there will be no escape from His judgement (Lk.16:19-31). “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Heb.9:27).
In pondering the Power of God in creation, Job highlighted a fraction:
God controls all creation, stretches out the north and hangs the earth in empty space – on nothing (v.7).
God controls the clouds, fills them with water – yet they do not break under the weight of it (v.8).
God controls the Display of His Glory, and hides His throne with a cloud (v.9).
God has set the boundaries for the waters and for day and night (v.10).
God has Power over chaotic cosmic forces; He causes the formidable pillars of heaven to tremble when He speaks (v.11).
God’s Power causes the waves of the oceans – yet He brings storms to cease (v.12).
God, by His Spirit, adorns the Heavens with the lights – and has power over wild beasts (v.13).
Yet, all of these are a small “whisper” of the “Thunder of His Power”! They are nothing more than being on the edges or fringes of God’s ways (v.14). From such a vast arena of God’s works, so tiny is the understanding we have about Him.
No mortal can fully understand the Immensity of God’s Power. We cannot capture Him with our thoughts. We as humans still strive to explain the mysteries of the Universe. How could we expect to explain the One who created it all? From the microscope to the telescope – we have only seen a fraction of what He can do. He can take a heart of stone and turn it into a heart of flesh. He can turn lives downside up and upside down. Now, God sent Jesus to give us Light of Who He is and all He has done. Far beyond the awesome wonder of His Power in creation, is the Amazing Wonder of His Power in Redemption. Let’s reflect on few scriptures that draw our gaze to God’s Power:
“‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by YOUR GREAT POWER and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You” (Jer.32:17).
“Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake, that He might make HIS MIGHTY POWER known” (Psa.106:8).
“He has declared to His people the POWER of His works, in giving them the heritage of the nations” (Psa.111:6).
“And declared to be the Son of God with POWER according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Rom.1:4)
“And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by HIS POWER” (1Cor.6:14).
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the POWER that WORKS IN US” (Eph.3:20).
The Power that upholds the Universe now “works in us”! What a Wonder!

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
