Psalm 118: 1-17

The LORD will perfect that which concerns me: your MERCY, O LORD, endures forever: forsake not the works of Your own hands – Psalm 138:8

Today, we’ll dwell on 'What Mercy Does' for God’s covenant-children: All the paths of the LORD are MERCY and truth to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies” (Psa.25:10). Mercy is vitally connected with the Covenant (Psa.103:17-18). God assured David: My Mercy I will keep for him forever, and My covenant shall stand firm with him” (Psa.89:28). Are you a Covenant-child of God? His Mercy will surely speak for you! Here are five of the numerous miracles of Mercy:

  1. God’s Mercy confirms the deliverance of His anointed: Great deliverance He gives to His king; and shows Mercy to His anointed…” (Psa.18:50). Mercy will deliver you from trouble and lift you up from the gates of death (Psa.9:3).
  2. Mercy silences the devil and his agents who query whether God will show you any good (Psa.4:1-6). Satan has no argument against mercy! Mercy is part of your divine defence: he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him” (Psa.32:10b).
  3. Trusting in God’s Mercy empowers your heart to rejoice in His salvation (Psa.13:5). Outside of mercy, salvation would have been meaningless: Show us Your Mercy, O LORD, and grant us Your salvation” (Psa.85:7).  Trusting in God’s Mercy fortifies your testimony of faith: But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the Mercy of God forever and ever” (Psa.52:8). By grace we stand; by mercy we flourish.
  4. Mercy ensures that you are not “messed up” in life. The many blessings of Psalm 103:1-7 derive from the reality of mercy: “the LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy” (Psa.103:8). We need the mercy-link in this world of challenges. Mercy preserves you in a world full of famine, war and scourge of the tongue: “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not” (Lam.3:22). It takes mercy to run the race and fight the battles of life (Eccl.9:11-12). God’s mercies comfort and sustain life (Ps.119: 76, 77).
  5. God works wonders by Mercy: “To Him who alone does GREAT WONDERS, for His Mercy endure forever” (Ps.136:4). Mercy drives God's power for wonders. Virtually every miracle performed by the Lord Jesus was a Miracle of Mercy, but the recipients came with definite desires (Mt.17:15-18; 20:29-34; Mk.9:17-27). Mercy connects Needs to Miracles. Need is the incubator of the miracle of mercy as we see in the stories of Zacchaeus and Bartimeous (Mk.10; Lk.19).

Psalm 118 reflects the need for continual confession of mercy. We must be ever grateful, for there is nothing greater than thanksgiving that we can return to God in exchange for the riches of His Mercy. Finally, by His Mercy, we can boldly affirm: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD” (Psa.118:17).

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
