Grass is illustrative of Man in his fallen, natural state: “all flesh is as grass”. The word “flesh” in the Bible means much more than the material of which the human body is made. It refers to the fallen nature and unregenerate state of Man, as a consequence of Adam’s sin.

“…There is more to the Christian life than living on experiences. Being born again is an experience. Being healed is an experience. Being baptized in the Holy Spirit is an experience. But if the experience does not open the door to an ongoing process, then we soon fall to earth again – battered, flattened, and often worse than when we made our upward leap.

“Millions…have resigned themselves to a normal life, with normal activities, in the company of normal people, striving for normal goals, at a normal pace, with normal motivation, with a normal education, taught by normal teachers, who give normal grades, and live-in normal homes, with normal families, leaving a normal heritage, for their normal children, who bury them in a normal grave. What a normal tragedy.

“The most precious gift, other than salvation, from God to man is a part of His own sovereignty so that we can choose. God wants us to serve Him because we love Him, not out of force or coercion. Love demands freedom of choice. If we’re forced to love God, it isn’t love – we’re made to do it. God created us as beings who don’t have to love Him, but who may choose to. How amazing to realize that God surrendered part of His sovereignty and gave it to us.
