WISDOM FOR REIGNING

By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, all the judges of the earth – Proverbs 8:15-16

Proverbs 8 is a personification of Wisdom. Here, Wisdom affirms that good kings and princes must have her, if they would righteously execute their offices. The greatness of nations – in terms of their leadership, legislation, and judicial systems – depends to a large extent, on civil rulers possessing the wisdom to enact and enforce justice and equity for every citizen. Such wisdom comes from the fear of God and the inspired instructions in the Word of God.

Kings need wisdom to justly guide the rule of their kingdoms. A king without wisdom is an oppressor (Pro.28:16). Solomon had sought wisdom and understanding carefully in the beginning of his reign, having been taught their significance and value (1Kgs.3:7-9; Pro.4:1-9). Wisdom is so important for ruling that a poor child with wisdom is better than a rich old, but foolish king (Eccl.4;13). This wisdom does not only pertain to monarchs and presidents of nations, but everyone in a position of leadership or responsibility. It applies to every husband, parent, employer, teacher, master, judge, and pastor who wants to rule well. Whatever your leadership status, wisdom can make up for your limitations, so seek it (Jas.1:5).

Wisdom teaches kings many salient principles, including: equity (Pr.14:35), honest lips (Pr.16:13), pure motives (Pr.22:11), punishing the wicked (Pr.20:8,26), mercy and truth (Pr.20:28), faithfully judging the poor (Pr.29:14), and searching out matters (Pr.25:2). Wisdom also teaches kings what to avoid, namely: careless suretyship (Pr.6:1-5), wicked counsellors (Pr.25:5), bribes and lies (Pr.29:4,12), whorish women and strong drink (Pr.31:3-5), and gluttony (Ecc.10:16-17). In reality, Wisdom is ordained to make kings and leaders great, and their kingdoms and nations havens of peace and prosperity.

The True and Ultimate Personification of Wisdom is King Jesus – the Lord Our Righteousness, Faithful and True, Who rules by His great treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Jer.23:5-6; Rev.19:11; Col.2:3). To know Him and submit your leadership to His Lordship is the ultimate Secret of Wisdom! Now, begin to reign and rule by Wisdom in your domains of influence!
