LOVE’S STRENGTH

Love bears all things…– 1 Corinthians 13:7a

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us – Romans 5:8

LOVE’S DELIGHT

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth – 1 Corinthians 13: 6 (NIV).

…doesn’t revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth… – 1 Corinthians 13:6 (Message).

Love does not delight or rejoice in evil, unrighteousness and iniquity…Love rejoices with truth.

LOVE’S RECORD

…it keeps no record of wrongs… – 1 Corinthians 13:5d (NIV)

Love keeps no vengeful record of wrongs. Love does not take into account a wrong suffered, with the intention of begrudging or retaliating. Love doesn’t keep score of the offences of others. Love is not resentful. In short, LOVE FORGIVES time and again (Mt.6:12). “…Love covers over a multitude of sins” (1 Pet.4:8, NIV). “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs” (Pro.10:12, NIV).

LOVE’S RESPONSE

…is not easily angered…– 1 Corinthians 13: 5c (NIV)

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God – James 1: 18-19

LOVE’S PURSUIT

…it is not self-seeking – 1 Corinthians 13:5b (NIV)

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another – Romans 12:10

Love is not selfish or self-seeking; it does not seek its own at the expense of, or without due consideration of others. Love is sacrificial. Love isn’t always “Me first”! The loving person, though not necessarily ignoring his or her own legitimate needs, will often put the benefits of others over his or her own good.

LOVE’S BEHAVIOUR: NOT RUDE

It does not dishonour others… – 1 Corinthians 13:5a (NIV)
Love is not ill-mannered…– 1 Corinthians 13:5a (GNB)

Christians often erroneously assume that behaviour is peripheral to our faith, that our Christianity is essentially an inward reality, irrespective of the outward reflection. Faith in Christ is undoubtedly an inward reality, but there must be an outward expression; just as fruits provide evidence of roots!

LOVE’S DISPOSITION: NOT BOASTFUL OR PROUD

…it does not boast, it is not proud – 1 Corinthians 13:4c (NIV)

Love does not boast and love is not proud. Love’s disposition is humble both words and deeds. Love does not boast in itself. Love is not boastful or bashful. Love does not brag and is not arrogant. “Love does not parade itself…” (NKJV). “Love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head…” (Message).

LOVE’S CHARACTER: NOT ENVIOUS

…It does not envy… – 1 Corinthians 13:4b (NIV)
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have – 1 Corinthians 13:4b (Message)

The two positive descriptions of love – patient and kind (13:4a) – are followed by eight negative characteristics (13:4b-6), and finally four more positive attributes (13:7).

LOVE’S KINDNESS

…Love is kind… - 1 Corinthians 13:4b (NIV)
…Love cares more for others than for self – 1 Corinthians 13:4b (Message)

LOVE’S PATIENCE

Love is patient… – 1 Corinthians 13:4a (NIV)
Love never gives up…. – 1 Corinthians 13:4a (Message)

The fourth verse of the Love Chapter begins to paint the Picture of love – WHAT LOVE IS: love is patient and love is kind. These are followed by WHAT LOVE IS NOT (verses 4b-6a) and WHAT LOVE DOES (verses 6b-7).

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
